No internet or Wi‑Fi

First, let’s find out whether the problem is one device, the network on your premises, or the line from your provider.

CONTROL ALT DELETE is not an internet provider and does not sell subscriptions. We help with what’s on your premises: Wi‑Fi, routers, cabling and the local network. If the fault is in your provider’s line, only they can fix it.

Turn on JavaScript to go through the checks one step at a time. Here they are as a list:

  1. Does the internet work on another device?

Open a website on your phone, connected to the same Wi‑Fi rather than mobile data. If it works there, the problem is the first device.

  2. Switch the device’s Wi‑Fi off and on again

Turn Wi‑Fi off for about 10 seconds and turn it back on. Also check that aeroplane mode is off.

  3. Restart the device

A full restart, not just locking the screen.

  4. Are the router’s lights on?

Find the router, the box the provider’s cable goes into. Check that it is plugged in and its lights are on. A red or orange light usually means a connection problem.

  5. Restart the router

Unplug the router’s power, wait 30 seconds and plug it back in. Give it 2–3 minutes for the lights to settle. If you have a separate box from your provider (a modem), restart that first, then the router.

Careful: Don’t press the small “Reset” button or pinhole on the back. It erases all of the router’s settings.

  6. Check the cables

The provider’s cable and the cables between the router and your devices should be pushed all the way in. A network cable usually clicks when it is in properly.

  7. Check with your provider

If nothing works after the restart, your provider may have an outage. Check their website or call their support line. If their line is fine but your network still isn’t working, that part is ours.

  8. A weak signal is rarely fixed by a restart

When Wi‑Fi doesn’t reach some rooms, floors or the storeroom, the access points usually need to be moved or another one added. That is on-site work. Describe the premises and we’ll tell you what can be done.
